Surgical Excision
Skin cancer lesions are surgically excised along with a surrounding margin of normal skin. Your surgeon will take the necessary steps to reconstruct the wound. The removed tissue is sent to a laboratory, where it is microscopically examined to ensure that the margins are free of cancerous cells.
Laser Treatments
Some superficial skin cancers and actinic keratoses can be treated with medical lasers. Laser treatments are used to remove skin with little damage to the surrounding tissue. The laser energy seals blood vessels as it works to minimize bleeding.
Freezing (Cryosurgery)
Cryosurgery is a procedure to freeze away some small skin cancers and pre-cancerous lesions (actinic keratoses) with a spray of liquid nitrogen. The treated area usually scabs over before falling away within a few weeks.
